Bellevalia dubia (Guss.) Rchb.

Bulb usually c. 3 × 2.5 cm, broadly ovoid. Leaves 3–6, equalling or exceeding scape, linear-oblanceolate, 4–7(–12) mm wide, flat or slightly canaliculate, with smooth margins. Scapes 1–4, 15–30 cm at anthesis. Raceme 15–35-flowered, oblong-pyramidal in bud, soon cylindrical. Pedicels 3–6 mm, erecto-patent at first, later patent or slightly recurved, not much elongating in fruit. Perianth 5–7 mm, broadly cylindrical, bright blue at early anthesis, after fertilization soon becoming brownish with short, whitish teeth. Valves of capsule c. 10 mm, broadly obovate.

Muscari neglectum Ten.

Bulb 1.5–2 cm, ovoid, usually with offsets; tunics reddish-brown. Leaves 3–6, linear to linear-oblanceolate, ± equalling scape, canaliculate, dark green. Scape 10–20 cm. Raceme 15–30 mm, rather dense. Fertile flowers short-pedicellate, nodding, 4–7 mm, broadly ellipsoid, gradually contracted distally, without shoulders, dark blue; teeth short, recurved, whitish; orifice 1/3–1/2 as wide as diameter of perianth. Sterile flowers at top of raceme usually few, smaller and paler than the fertile ones. Capsule c. 8 × 7 mm. Seeds c. 1.5 mm, globose, black, with rough testa.

Ornithogalum montanum Cirillo

Bulb c. 20 × 16 mm, broadly ovoid, with or without offsets. Leaves 3–7, spreading, equalling or exceeding inflorescence, broadly linear to narrowly elliptical, 4–20 mm wide, green to greyish-green, concolorous, without a white stripe, glabrous. Aerial part of scape 2–5 cm. Flowers 5–15(–30) in a lax corymb. Pedicels erecto-patent at anthesis, patent in fruit. Bracts much shorter than pedicels. Perianth segments 12–20 mm, white above; green stripe on back c. 2/3 as wide as segment. Capsule obovoid, with 6 obtuse ribs.

Ornithogalum sibthorpii Greuter

Ornithogalum sibthorpii Greuter συνώνυμο: Ornithogalum sigmoideum Freyn & Sint.

Plant 5-15(-20) cm. Leaves (3-)5-9(-11), (1-)1·5-4·5(-7) mm wide, glaucous, glabrous, longer than inflorescence. Inflorescence corymbiform, sessile on surface of soil. Pedicels after anthesis (but while still green) swollen into a motor pulvinus at the base, flaccid and sulcate at the apex, deflexed in fruit. Bracts longer or shorter than pedicels. Flowers (2)4-7(15). Perianth-segments 12·5-26 mm, ovate-elliptical, white, with pale green stripe on back. Anthers yellow or slightly greenish. Ovary 4-6(-7·5) mm, ovoid, with 6 promi nent angles, depressed at apex. Style (2·5-)4-5·5 mm. Capsule 9-15 mm, obovoid to cylindrical, the six angles keeled, the septal fissures reaching the base. Flowering February-March. 2n = 14, 18, 24, 28. Dry hillsides. (Περιγραφή απο Flora Europaea καθώς ο Strid αμφιβάλλει για την ονομασία και διαχωρισμό του είδους)

Ornithogalum atticum Boiss. & Heldr.

Ορνιθόγαλο το αττικό (Ornithogalum atticum Boiss. & Heldr.)

Μοιάζει με το O.montanum, αλλά γενικά μεγαλύτερο και πιο εύρωστο; φύλλα 4–9, γλαυκά, σχεδόν όρθια, δρεπανοειδή ή μερικές φορές στριμένα όταν είναι νέα; ταξιανθία με 6–15 άνθη, πυκνά όταν είναι νέα; bracts almost equalling pedicels; flowers somewhat larger; fruiting pedicels diverging at an angle of <40°; capsule less angular.

Μούσκαρι το όμορφο (Muscari pulchellum Boiss.)

Resembling M. neglectum, but smaller in all parts; bulb with few or no offsets; raceme few-flowered, rather lax; fertile flowers dark magenta, with whitish teeth. Diploid with 2n = 18.

Prospero autumnale (L.) Speta x Scilla autumnalis L.

Bulb 15–30 mm in diam., broadly ovoid, with branched roots; tunics brown or often pinkish. Leaves 4–10, appearing at or just after anthesis, shorter than scape even when fully developed, suberect, usually linear, somewhat fleshy, glabrous. Scapes 1–5, ascending to erect, 5–25 cm, slender. Flowers in a 15–30-flowered raceme, pyramidal in flower, much elongating in fruit. Bracts absent. Pedicels 8–15 mm, erecto-patent. Perianth segments 3–5 mm, spreading, pink, lilac or blue. Anthers usually dark purple. Seeds ellipsoid, without aril.

Ορνιθόγαλο το αραβικό (Ornithogalum arabicum L.)

Bulb rather large, with numerous offsets. Leaves 5–8, linear-lanceolate, shorter than scape, 10–30 mm wide at base, glabrous, green without white stripe. Scape 30–80 cm, erect, robust. Flowers 10–25 in a dense, corymbose, flat-topped inflorescence. Perianth segments 15–30 mm, elliptical, white without green fascia beneath. Filaments narrow, unwinged. Ovary purplish-black. Capsule cylindrical, obtusely angled.

Bulb c. 2 × 1.5 cm, broadly ovoid, with numerous, ± stipitate offsets (especially in forms adapted to traditional agriculture). Leaves 4–7, ascending to erect, linear, canaliculate, 3–6 mm wide, green with a whitish stripe on upper surface, glabrous. Aerial part of scape 5–15 cm. Inflorescence 6–15-flowered, wide. Pedicels erecto-patent to slightly deflexed, the lowest fruiting pedicels 5–9 cm; bract 1/2–2/3 as long as pedicel. Perianth segments 18–30 mm, white above, with a broad green stripe beneath. Style half as long as ovary. Capsule obovoid-oblong, with 6 narrow angles.

Το Μάρτη είναι γεμάτα τα βουνά μας απο αυτό το όμορφο λουλουδάκι που, όπως λέει και το όνομα του παρομοιάζεται με το "πουλιού το γάλα". Leaves (2–)3–4(–5), shorter than or equalling scape, linear-lanceolate, generally 5–15 mm wide, slightly canaliculate, glabrous. Scape 20–50 cm, usually solitary. Raceme 8–20 cm at anthesis, rather lax. Fertile flowers (10–)20–40(–100), patent or slightly deflexed on pedicels 5–10(–20) mm. Perianth 6–9 mm, broadly cylindrical, slightly widened at apex into rounded shoulders, violet in bud, at anthesis tawny brownish-yellow in lower 2/3 and somewhat darker distally; teeth pale yellow or cream. Sterile flowers long-pedicellate, forming a conspicuous, corymbose tassel; both pedicels and perianth violet. Capsule 7–9 mm, broadly ovoid. Seeds c. 2 mm, subglobose. Diploid with 2n = 18.

Drimia numidica (Jord. & Fourr.) J.C. Manning & Goldblatt συνώνυμα: Ουργινέα η παράλιος (Urginea maritima (L.) Baker , Drimia maritima (L.) Stearn)

Bulb appearing at ground level, large (5–20 cm in diam.), subglobose, with numerous free scales. Scape usually solitary, erect, 50–150 cm tall. Flowers numerous in a long raceme. Pedicels 12–20 mm, patent at anthesis, becoming erect in fruit; bracts small, ± scarious. Perianth segments free, spreading, 6–8 mm, white, sometimes with pink or greenish midvein. Anthers yellow. Capsule oblong, triquetrous. Seeds 7–8 mm, flattened, blackish. Leaves appearing in autumn and winter, withering before anthesis, large, lanceolate, up to 10 cm wide, glabrous.
