Ascending to erect annual, 5–25 cm tall. Cauline leaves elliptical, subacute. Inflorescence lax, dichasial; pedicels longer than calyx and bent just below it. Bracts herbaceous. Sepals with at least some eglandular hairs extending well beyond apex. Petals ± bifid. Capsule 6–10 mm, straight or slightly curved above. Seeds 0.5–0.8 mm, with short, acute tubercles. 

Subsp. atheniense (Lonsing) P. D. Sell & Whitehead: Like subsp. tenoreanum, but upper part of stem and pedicels with patent to deflexed hairs; capsule not or only slightly exceeding sepals; seeds 0.6–0.8 mm. Attiki and Evvia.

Μοιάζει με την Stellaria media αλλά διαφέρει στα ακόλουθα: Συνήθως μικρό και λεπτεπίλεπτο; ολόκληρο το φυτό ανοιχτόχρωμο ή κιτρινωπό-πράσινο; όλα τα φύλλα ± έμμισχα; πέταλα μικρά ή απουσιάζοντα; seeds 0.6–0.9 mm, pale brown, with low, obtuse tubercles. Diploid (2n = 22).

Πολλοί το θεωρούν υποείδος του P. tetraphyllum. Ο Strid το θεωρεί παραθαλάσσιο οικότυπο. Οι διαφορές είναι οι μακρύτεροι βλαστοί και το κοκκινωπό χρώμα.

Cauline leaves broadly linear. Flowers few; bracts rather large, narrowly ovate, acuminate, ciliate; pedicels usually 5–10 mm, rather stout. Calyx 13–18 mm, cylindrical at anthesis, broadly ovoid and somewhat inflated in fruit, truncate at base, with c. 30 conspicuous parallel veins; indumentum variable but not including long, multicellular eglandular hairs. Petal claw not exserted; limb 4–6 mm, pink to magenta, with broad apical sinus. Capsule pyriform, included in calyx. Seeds 0.7–1.0 mm, grey, with low, obtuse dorsal tubercles.

Resembling S. conica, but differing in the following characters: Cauline leaves spathulate to linear; pedicels 10–20(–35) mm; calyx 10–13 mm, pyriform and not inflated in fruit, rounded and shallowly umbilicate at base; seeds almost smooth.
