Polycarpon tetraphyllum (L.) L.
Glabrous or somewhat papillose annual or biennial. Stem 4–12 cm, usually much branched. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 4, 4–15 mm, elliptical to broadly oblanceolate. Stipules and bracts 2–3 mm, triangular-ovate, acuminate, scarious. Flowers in compound cymes, small, 5-merous. Sepals c. 2 mm, ovate, keeled, with whitish margins. Petals inconspicuous, shorter than sepals. Stamens (1–)3–5. Fruit a 3-valved capsule. Seeds c. 0.5 mm, minutely tuberculate.
