Asperugo procumbens L.
Annual, with weak, scrambling stems up to 70 cm, retrorsely aculeolate. Leaves ± opposite above, elliptic-oblanceolate. Flowers solitary or paired in leaf axils, short-pedicellate. Calyx lobed, the lobes dentate, accrescent in fruit, forming a folded sheath around the nutlets. Corolla small, becoming deeply purplish-violet, with small whitish scales. Nutlets c. 3 mm, pyriform, minutely tuberculate.
