Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.
Annual, occasionally single-stemmed but usually with several ascending to suberect culms 20–60 cm tall. Leaf blade usually 2–6 mm wide, flat, with narrow but conspicuous ribs, glabrous. Ligule 2–5 mm, obtuse, serrate. Upper leaf sheaths somewhat inflated. Inflorescence a dense, spike-like, cylindrical panicle 3–8 cm × 4–7 mm, narrowed towards apex. Spikelets 4.5–7.5 mm, laterally compressed, with 1 floret, whitish-green or tinged purple. Glumes connate for 1/3–1/2 of their length, acute, minutely ciliate on the narrowly winged keel. Lemma usually awned from back, awn exserted or sometimes lacking. Anthers 2.5–4 mm.
