Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum L. edulis (L.) N.E.Br.
Mesembryanthemum crystallinum: Densely crystalline-papillose annual with spreading stems 10–40 cm. Leaves short-petiolate, obovate-spathulate, succulent, flat, with ± undulate margins. Flowers solitary, short-pedicellate. Petal-like staminodes numerous, narrowly linear, 4–5 mm, whitish or occasionally pale pink. Capsule flattened, hard, invested with persistent hypanthium and sepals.
Differing from M. crystallinum in the following characters: Leaves sessile, linear-oblong, subterete, not conspicuously crystalline-papillose; petal-like staminodes less numerous, somewhat shorter and wider, usually white.
