Medicago ciliaris (L.) All.
Rather robust, subglabrous annual, generally branched from base, with ascending stems 15–40 cm. Leaflets obovate-cuneate, serrate at least in upper half. Peduncles ± equalling pedicels; inflorescence 1–4(–10)-flowered, but usually only 1 or 2 fruits developing. Corolla 5–7 mm, yellow. Young legume protruding sideways from calyx. Mature legume subglobose, 10–16 mm in diam., with several dense coils, intricately spiny and covered with multicellular hairs; surface of coils with a network of thin veins.
