Melica ciliata L.

Caespitose perennial, sometimes also with short rhizomes. Culms 20–60 cm, ± erect, slender. Leaves usually convolute, rather rigid. Ligule 2–4 mm, lacerate. Inflorescence a cylindrical, rather lax and somewhat unilateral panicle usually 4–10 cm; rhachis and panicle-branches visible. Spikelets 4–8 mm, with a single fertile floret. Glumes slightly unequal, the longer equalling or somewhat exceeding floret. Lemma of fertile floret lanceolate, 7–9-veined; lateral veins long-ciliate; dorsal surface punctate-scabrid.
