Aegilops neglecta Bertol.
Aegilops biuncialis: Annual, usually tufted, with several ascending to suberect stems 10–40 cm. Spike (excl. awns) 3–4 times as long as wide, with 1 or 2 vestigial spikelets below and 2–3(–4) fertile spikelets above, gradually tapering upwards. Awns long and erecto-patent, giving the spike an obconical appearance. Glumes 7–10 mm, truncate, with 6–10 strong, flattened veins, intermittently wide and narrower, and 3 long, basally flattered awns. Glumes of lateral and terminal fertile spikelets with awns of the same length. Awns of lemma shorter and narrower than those of glumes. Rhachis not disarticulating at maturity (fruiting spike shed as a unit).
Resembling A. biuncialis, but vestigial spikelets (2–)3, followed by 2 fertile and 1 or 2 sterile spikelets, the latter forming a narrow column; spike abruptly contracted above the fertile spikelets; total number of awns in spike 15–35, those of lemmas c. half as long as those of glumes.
