Aegilops markgrafii (Greuter) K. Hammer συνώνυμο: Aegilops caudata L.

Slender annual with several ascending to erect stems 25–45 cm. Spike cylindrical, 4–7 cm (excl. awns), with 2 vestigial basal, 3–6 lateral and 1 terminal spikelet. Glumes of lateral spikelets usually unawned, with short teeth only. Glumes of terminal spikelet attenuate into a single, long, scabrid, erecto-patent awn 4–10 cm long, flattened below and without basal teeth; lemmas without awn. Fruiting spike detached as a unit.
