Galium murale (L.) All.
Delicate annual, usually branched from base. Stems 5–15 cm, procumbent to ascending, ± simple, quadrangular, smooth or with retrorse bristles at angles. Leaves in whorls of 4 or 5, narrowly elliptical, c. 2 mm wide, antrorsely aculeolate at margins, shortly awned. Flowers usually paired in leaf axils (i.e. 2 1-flowered partial inflorescences at each node). Peduncles and pedicels very short, subglabrous, ± thickened and patent to reflexed in fruit. Corolla minute (0.5–1 mm in diam.), yellowish. Mericarps c. 1.5 mm, cylindrical, curved and separated at middle, with robust hooked setae at least towards apex. (Περιγραφή απο Strid)
Stems 5-20 cm, procumbent or ascending from a much-branched base, but usually without branches above, smooth or retrorsely aculeolate (also with patent hairs above). Leaves 4-10 Χ 0·8-2·5 mm, in whorls of 4-6, widely to narrowly oblanceolate, shortly awned, hairy to glabrescent. Inflorescence cylindrical, few-flowered, with 1-4 flowers in each whorl, in 2-flowered partial inflorescences or solitary; pedicels 0·5-1·5 mm, shorter than the bracts, deflexed after anthesis. Corolla c. 0·7 mm in diameter, yellowish, glabrous or somewhat hairy externally; lobes acute. Fruit 1·3-1·5 mm, cylindrical; mericarps curved and separated from one another, often unequal, and with hooked setae especially towards the apex (rarely glabrous). 2n = 44.
