Veronica anagallis-aquatica L.
Short-lived perennial with one to several erect, rather robust, ± hollow stems usually 20–40 cm tall but occasionally much larger, glabrous or sparsely glandular-pubescent throughout. Leaves opposite, sessile and slightly amplexicaul, lanceolate, shallowly serrate in upper half. Flowers in long-pedunculate axillary racemes equalling or somewhat exceeding subtending leaf. Pedicels 4–7 mm, erecto-patent, usually exceeding the linear bracts. Corolla 4–8 mm in diam., pale blue to pinkish with darker veins. Capsule 2.5–4 mm, broadly ovoid, usually glabrous, not emarginate, opening by 4 valves. Seeds small (c. 0.5 mm), ovoid. 2n = 36.
