Tyrimnus leucographus (L.) Cass.
Annual with slender taproot. Stem erect, usually 20–80 cm tall, sparingly branched above. Leaves broadly oblanceolate to oblong, sinuate-dentate or shallowly lobed, rather weakly spiny-dentate, ± marbled. Lower part of stem winged. Peduncles long, slender. Involucre subglobose, 15–25 mm in diam. Receptacle with setaceous scales. Phyllaries imbricate, lanceolate, acuminate, slightly arachnoid-tomentose. Florets pale purplish-pink or white. Achenes c. 4 mm, glabrous, with 4 ribs and concave sides; apex with conspicuous collar and a central projection; pappus of long, scabridulous white hairs.
