Lolium perenne L.
Perennial with non-flowering shoots at anthesis. Culms generally 25–60 cm, with 2–4 nodes. Young leaves flat or folded; ligule membranous, up to 2.5 mm; auricles lacking or inconspicuous. Inflorescence a distichous spike with flattened spikelets turning the edge to the rhachis. Spikelets 10–15 mm, usually 5–10-flowered. Glumes somewhat unequal, much shorter than spikelet, 5–7-veined. Lemma 6–8 mm, usually without awn.
