Festuca pratensis Huds.

Laxly caespitose perennial, without rhizomes. Culms erect, 30–120 cm tall, rather stout. Leaves flat, somewhat flaccid, 3–8 mm wide, almost smooth above, with glabrous, clasping auricles. Ligule a short rim. Panicle large and lax, ± erect, with aculeolate branches; the shorter of the 2 lower panicle branches with 1–3 spikelets. Spikelets 10–12 mm, generally with 5–9 florets, brownish-green. Glumes obtuse. Lemma acute, without awn.
