Epilobium tetragonum: Rhizomatous perennial, without stolons. Stem 30–70 cm, erect, sparingly branched, subglabrous, with 4 raised lines, ± quadrangular. Leaves opposite, sessile and shortly decurrent, the middle 4–7 cm, lanceolate, finely serrate with somewhat curved teeth, bright green. Inflorescence narrow, little branched. Pedicels, ovary and fruit appressed-puberulent, eglandular. Flowers not opening widely. Petals 5–7 mm, pale rose-pink. Stigma at same level as stamens at anthesis. Fruit 6–10 cm.
Resembling E. tetragonum, but stem more branched above, with 4 inconspicuous lines, ± terete; leaves slightly smaller, subsessile, not decurrent, dull greyish-green; flowers opening more widely; petals 6–9 mm, dark rose-pink.
