Perennial, ± woody at base, with several, ascending to erect flowering stems 5–15 cm, sometimes whole plant tinged purple. Leaves usually alternate, elliptical to suborbicular. Inflorescence dense in flower, elongating in fruit. Petals 2–7 mm, indistinctly clawed, usually pink. Siliculae dimorphic, unilocular or bilocular, all 3.5–6 mm, narrowly obovate to suborbicular, with broad wing towards apex, shallowly notched. Style very short.
Subsp. graecum: Shortlived, lax perennial with slender base; leaves oblong to narrowly obovate, relatively thin; few siliculae unilocular.
