Onobrychis caput galli (L.) Lam.
Annual with a slender taproot; last year’s fruit often remaining at base of plant. Stems procumbent to erect, 10–30 cm. Leaflets 9–17, oblong to narrowly obovate. Peduncles axillary, ± equalling leaves. Inflorescence a short, 2–5-flowered raceme. Calyx teeth 2–3 times as long as tube. Corolla 4–7 mm, pink. Legume hard and indehiscent, 1- or 2-seeded, semi-orbicular, compressed, appressed-puberulent, with sharp, linear-triangular spines on crest and shorter spines on the valves.
