Ranunculus paludosus Poir.
Perennial with a cluster of ellipsoid to broadly cylindrical root tubers mixed with longer fibrous roots. Stock (base of stem) swollen and distinctly fibrous. Stems 1–3, erect, (5–)10–25(–40) cm, pilose. Petiole of basal leaves densely pilose; blade very variable, often flabellate or only shallowly crenate-dentate in outer leaves and more dissected, with lanceolate lobes in the inner. Flowers 1–3(–6). Sepals appressed. Petals 5(–8), 10–18 mm, obovate, bright yellow. Fruiting head 8–28 mm, shortly cylindrical, dense. Body of achene c. 2 mm, compressed, contracted into a straight or slightly hooked beak 1–1.5 mm.
