Resembling
O. caput-galli and often growing together with it, differing in the following characters: Plant usually suberect; peduncles longer than leaves; racemes lax, especially in fruit; calyx teeth 3–4 times as long as tube; corolla larger (10–13 mm), reddish-purple; legume with 4–6 flat, triangular, greenish teeth on crest; valves with a strongly thickened mesh produced into some short, stout spines.
