Tetragonolobus purpureus Moench συνώνυμο: Lotus tetragonolobus L.
Annual, sparsely patent-pilose throughout, usually branched from base; stems procumbent to ascending, (5–)10–30 cm. Leaves 3-foliolate; stipules herbaceous, ovate, much smaller than the obovate leaflets. Flowers solitary or occasionally paired, short-pedicellate. Calyx teeth lanceolate, 1.5–2 times as long as tube. Corolla 15–20 mm; standard scarlet, wings and keel dark red to blackish, wings sometimes with a yellow spot. Legume 30–60 × 6–8 mm, with 4 conspicuous, undulate wings.
