Dioscorea communis (L.) Caddick & Wilkin συνώνυμο: Τάμος ο κοινός (Tamus communis L.)
Δίοικο πολυετές φυτό with a large, irregular tuber producing slender, scandent annual stems 1–4 m, climbing in bushes. Leaves alternate, long-petiolate; blade cordate at base, acute to acuminate, ovate or sometimes with 2 rounded lobes at base (var. subtriloba Guss.; syn.: var. cretica (L.) Boiss.), fresh green and somewhat glossy. Flowers small, tawny yellowish, with 6 perianth lobes, the male in lax axillary racemes, the female in short axillary clusters. Fruit a globose berry c. 10 mm in diam., finally red. Seeds globose, c. 3 mm in diam., brown.
