Bushy, much-branched subshrub 15–40 cm tall. Twigs densely white-tomentose. Leaves numerous, linearoblanceolate, ± dark green above, white-tomentose beneath; margins irregularly undulate-sinuate, often revolute. Capitula solitary on slender peduncles. Involucre broadly campanulate, 9–14 mm in diam., brownish; phyllaries imbricate, triangular-lanceolate, acute (triangular-ovate and subobtuse in subsp. rupestre), with entire margins. Florets yellow, the outer female and filiform, the inner hermaphrodite and tubular. Achenes c. 1 mm, olivebrown, slightly pubescent, with pappus of long scabridulous hairs.
