Bromus rigidus Roth
Bromus diandrus: Annual; culms usually loosely tufted, suberect, 35–70 cm tall. Leaf blade 4–8 mm wide, flat, sparsely pilose. Ligule 3–5 mm, obtuse, lacerate. Panicle large, very lax; branches 2–4 at the lower nodes, mostly bearing a single spikelet, filiform, densely scabriduous. Spikelets conspicuously large, 5–8-flowered, cuneiform and widest at the top. Lower glume c. 16 mm, 1(–3)-veined, the upper c. 25 mm, 3(–5)-veined. Lemma 25–34 mm, bifid at apex, with a subapical, straight, scabridulous awn 40–60 mm. Rhachilla disarticulating below each floret at maturity. Callus scar almost circular.
Very similar to B. diandrus, but panicle denser, with suberect branches; callus scar elliptical.
