Polygonum maritimum L.
Perennial with a tough, woody taproot; whole plant greyish-glaucous. Flowering stems several, 20–50 cm, rather stout, procumbent with ascending branches. Upper ochreae longer than the internodes, conspicuous, brownish at base, silvery and ± lacerate above. Leaves sessile, elliptical to narrowly lanceolate, with revolute margins, sometimes tinged purple. Flowers in axillary clusters aggregated above; bracts longer than flowers. Perianth 3–4.5 mm; segments connate for up to 1/3, petaloid. Nutlet equalling perianth, trigonous-ovoid, dark brown, shiny.
