Polygonum aviculare L.
Annual with slender taproot. Stems procumbent to erect, 10–50 cm. Ochreae shorter than internodes, silvery-hyaline. Leaves narrowly lanceolate to elliptical, those of main stem usually larger than those of branches. Flowers in clusters of 1–6 in leaf axils; bracts exceeding flowers. Perianth 2–4 mm; segments connate for 1/5–1/3, usually greenish with purplish-pink margins; veins incrassate in fruit. Nutlet 2.1–2.4 mm, enclosed in perianth, ± flattened with shortest side concave. 2n = 60.
