Phalaris minor Retz.

Phalaris canariensis: Annual; culms usually in small fascicles, geniculately ascending to erect, 25–60 cm tall. Upper leaf sheaths inflated, glabrous; blade flat and soft, generally 3–10 mm wide. Panicle 2–3 cm, very dense, ovoid-oblong. Glumes 7–9 mm, with an entire wing in upper 2/3 of keel. Sterile lemmas 2, subequal, 3–3.5 mm. Fertile lemma 5–6 mm, appressed-pubescent. Anthers c. 3 mm.

Resembling P. canariensis, but differing in the following characters: Glumes somewhat smaller (5–7 mm), with a denticulate-undulate wing in upper 2/3 of keel; sterile lemma solitary, c. 1 mm; anthers 1.5–2 mm.
