Caespitose annual. Stems suberect, filiform, 5–20(–30) cm tall. Leaves shorter than stems, very narrow, canaliculate, not septate. Inflorescence lax, usually occupying at least upper half of plant. Flowers solitary, each with 2 scarious involucral bracteoles. Outer perianth segments 5–8 mm, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate; the inner somewhat shorter, with scarious apical auricles; all longer than capsule. Anthers at least 2/3 as long as filament. Capsule 3.5–5 mm, narrowly ovoid to ellipsoid. Seeds 0.4–0.55 mm.
