Quercus ithaburensis subsp. macrolepis (Kotschy) Hedge & Yalt.
Deciduous tree up to 15 m tall, with a stout trunk and wide crown. Twigs densely tomentose. Leaf blade usually 4–13 × 2.5–8 cm, ovate-oblong, with 4–7 pairs of short, triangular, acute to shortly acuminate lobes; intercalary veins absent; base rounded or cordate; upper surface dull green, ± stellate-tomentose; lower surface greyish-green, densely stellate-tomentose; petiole densely tomentose, not grooved above. Fruit ripening in the second year. Cupule conspicuously large, usually 4–8 cm in diam.; scales linear-oblong, up to 20 × 5 mm, erecto-patent to deflexed. Acorn exserted c. halfway, usually obtuse at apex.
Μεμονωμένα άτομα συνήθως δίπλα σε μοναστήρια ή εκκλησίες, έχουμε δει και νεαρά άτομα τα οποία θα μπορούσαν ενδεχομένως να σχηματίσουν συστάδες απο αυτό το υπέροχο δέντρο, αλλά συνήθως αυτά ελέγχονται απο αγροτικές δραστηριότητες.
