Elytrigia atherica (Link) Kerguélen συνώνυμο: Elymus athericus (Link) Kerguélen

Glabrous perennial with long-creeping rhizomes. Culms 40–90 cm, erect, rather rigid. Leaves flat or usually convolute and then 1–1.5 mm in diam., closely and prominently ribbed on upper surface, tough, greyish-green. Ligule very short. Inflorescence a dense spike 4–10(–20) cm; rhachis tough, aculeolate on margins. Spikelets distichously arranged, solitary at each node, 10–18 mm, with 4–8 florets. Glumes nearly equalling lemmas, coriaceous, usually 5-veined, with a prominent aculeolate keel. Glumes and lemmas acute, without awn.
