Stachys germanica: Rhizomatous perennial. Stems suberect, 30–90 cm tall, rather robust, ± tomentose. Basal leaves long-petiolate, the cauline short-petiolate to subsessile, all with blade ± cordate at base, elliptic-oblong, crenate, grey-tomentose at least beneath. Inflorescence usually long, with several dense, distinctly separated verticillasters. At least the lower floral leaves equalling or exceeding verticillasters. Calyx 8–12 mm; teeth triangular, acute or shortly mucronate, 1/3–1/2 as long as tube. Corolla 14–20 mm, rose-pink.

A very variable species resembling S. germanica, but generally smaller and more densely pubescent; leaves cuneate (rarely truncate or subcordate) at base; calyx teeth with mucro 1–3 mm.
