Σμίλαξ η τραχεία (Smilax aspera L.)

Dioecious, glabrous, woody climber scrambling in vegetation for up to 15 m. Stems slender, with sharp, patent or somewhat recurved prickles. Leaves alternate, petiolate; petiole often with a pair of twining tendrils at base; blade usually narrowly triangular-hastate with rounded, cordate base, coriaceous, margin often spinulose. Flowers 6-merous, in several small, short-pedunculate umbels on ± leafless, zig-zag branches. Perianth lobes 3–4 mm, oblong, cream or tinged pink. Fruit a red berry.
