Juniperus oxycedrus subsp. macrocarpa (Sm.) Neilr. τώρα ονομάζεται Juniperus macrocarpa Sm.

Juniperus oxycedrus: Evergreen shrub or sometimes a small tree, 1–4(–10) m. All leaves in whorls of 3, patent, rigid, pungent, 10–20 × 1.4–2.0 mm, tapering from the middle; adaxial surface with 2 whitish stoloniferous bands. Fruit globose, 6–11 mm in diam., composed of 3 fleshy scales, yellowish-green at first, finally red when ripe in the second year.

Resembling J. oxycedrus and sometimes regarded as a subspecies of it, but ecologically rather distinct and differing in the following morphological characters: Leaves tapering from the base, usually 2.0–2.5 mm wide; ripe fruits 12–16 mm in diam.

Είτε σαν υποείδος του J. oxycedrus είτε σαν ξεχωριστό είδος, διαφέρει πολύ απο το αδελφάκι του Juniperus turbinata, με πολύ πιο μυτερά φύλλα.
