Allium commutatum Guss.

This species is close to A. ampeloprasum and especially to A. bourgeaui, differing from the latter in the tricuspidate outer filaments and broadly spathulate inner perianth segments (oblong in A. bourgeaui). It may be found in large quantity on small islets but also in disturbed habitats on larger islands and mainland.

Bulbs 1·5-2 cm in diameter, subglobose; outer tunics membranous; bulblets absent or few, yellowish. Stem 20-120 cm, often reddish in upper part. Leaves 3-7, up to 50 cm Χ 8 mm, linear, fistular, canaliculate, sheathing the lower 1/4-1/3 of the stem, usually withered at anthesis. Spathe 2-7 cm, 1-valved, long-beaked, caducous. Umbel 2·5-6·5 cm in diameter, subglobose, many-flowered; pedicels 10-25 mm at anthesis, the central ones sometimes up to 50 mm in fruit, often reddish. Perianth cylindrical; segments purple, the outer 3-4·5 Χ 1-1·8 mm, narrowly oblong or oblong-elliptical, usually longer and narrower than the inner, obtuse or truncate, smooth. Stamens exserted, ciliate below; outer 3 filaments 4·5-6 mm, simple, the inner 3 with the basal lamina slightly wider than the inner segments and shorter than or equalling the central cusp, the lateral cusps 1½ or more times as long as the central cusp. Capsule c. 4 mm. 2n = 16, 24, 32. Cultivated ground and rocky places.

Μετά απο ενδελεχή έρευνα και τη βοήθεια του Σταύρου, του Μηνά και γενικότερα της ομάδας μελέτης Natura Hellenica, αναγνωρίζονται τελικά σαν Allium amethystinum, όλα αυτά τα αγριοκρέμμυδα που μοιάζουν αρκετά με το Allium ampeloprasum, αλλά είναι κοντύτερα, με μικρότερο κεφάλι, πιο σκούρα άνθη που ανθίζουν σταδιακά απο πάνω προς τα κάτω, με στήμονες που εξέχουν εμφανώς και πολλές φορές είναι μωβ και το πάνω μέρος του βλαστού. Bulbs 0·5-1 cm in diameter; outer tunics membranous. Stem 4-30 cm. Leaves 3-4, up to 11 cm Χ 0·5 mm, filiform, usually scabridulous with minute teeth along the veins beneath, sheathing the lower 2/3-3/4 of the stem. Spathe 2-valved; valves unequal, up to 9 cm and longer than the pedicels, lanceolate at base, contracted above into a slender filiform appendage. Umbel 1-3 cm in diameter, hemispherical or fastigiate, 8- to 30-flowered; pedicels 5-12 mm, almost equal. Perianth cupshaped; segments 3·5-4 mm, greenish, yellow- sometimes brown-tinged (sometimes reddish when dry), the outer narrowly elliptical, c. 1·5 mm wide, the inner elliptical, c. 2 mm wide, obtuse. Allium hirtovaginatum Kunth

Allium stamineum: Bulb small (c. 1 cm in diam.), without bulblets; outer tunics membranous, grey. Stem 10–35 cm, often flexuous. Leaves 2–4, filiform, sheathing stem up to halfway. Umbel 3–7 cm in diam., diffuse but rather dense, usually with 15–40 flowers; pedicels unequal. Spathe valves 2, persistent, slender, at least the longer much  exceeding umbel. Perianth narrowly campanulate, short (3.5–4.5 mm), pale purple or tawny brownish-pink. Filaments distinctly exserted, often purple; anthers yellow. Ovary sessile, subglobose.

A species of uncertain status, described from Lesvos and reported from widely scattered localities in Greece and the W half of Turkey. It is evidently close to A. stamineum, but was retained in recent Floras, differing mainly in the pilose leaf sheaths.

Leaves 2-5, up to 30 cm Χ 3 mm, filiform, semi-terete or flattened, fistular, sheathing the lower 1/3-2/3 of the stem. Spathe 1-5 cm, 1-valved, with beak 1·5-4 cm, caducous. Umbel 1·5-5 cm in diameter, subglobose, ovoid or hemispherical, many-flowered; pedicels unequal, the central erect in fruit and up to 30 mm, the outer much shorter and deflexed, thus sometimes forming an apparently double umbel, with large membranous bracteoles at base like an involucre. Perianth cylindrical; segments 2·5-4·5 Χ 1-1·2 mm, the outer oblong, keeled, obtuse or subacute, the inner narrowly oblong-spathulate, truncate-rounded, smooth. Είδος με εξαιρετική ποικιλομορφία, ειδικά στο μέγεθος. Κάποια άτομα, συνήθως δίπλα στη θάλασσα, μικρά σε μέγεθος, είχαν αναγνωριστεί παλαιότερα σαν Allium staticiforme αλλά πρόκειται μάλλον για μια απο τις μορφές του Allium guttatum, ίσως το υποείδος Allium guttatum subsp guttatum. Umbel 1-5 cm in diameter; pedicels up to 20 mm, unequal. Perianth ovoid; segments lilac to dark purple, the outer 4-6·5 Χ 1·5-2·5 mm, lanceolate or narrowly ovate, the inner 4-7 Χ 1·5-3·5 mm, narrowly oblong or ovate, subacute or obtuse, papillose along the keel. Subsp. rotundum: Leaves 2-10 mm wide. Umbel many-flowered, subglobose or hemispherical, without bulbils. Perianth with outer segments dark purple; inner segments paler, with broad whitish margins and purple median stripe. Capsule c. 5 mm; seeds freely produced.

Απο τις παρατηρήσεις του Σταύρου:"Το sphaerocephalum έχει πιο μακρόστενη ταξιανθία με τα λουλούδια πρασινωπά απο την βάση μέχρι σχεδόν την μέση της . Η σπάθη ανοίγει σε δυο τμήματα που παραμένουν κάτω απο την ταξιανθία."
