Aromatic annual or often short-lived perennial. Stems usually erect, up to 100 cm tall, ridged, much-branched. Leaves short-petiolate; blade usually 3–7 cm, lanceolate to narrowly elliptical, shallowly sinuate-dentate or entire. Inflorescence of several slender spikes with flowers in small glomerules. Perianth segments 5, green, ± glabrous, fused up to halfway. Seed 0.6–0.8 mm, roundish-lenticular, obtuse at edges, almost smooth.
