Prostrate-spreading to erect, much-branched annual, 15–80 cm. Stem angular or ridged, with long internodes. Leaves opposite or alternate, the lower 3–10 cm, oblong to rhombic-hastate, cuneate at base, greyish-green to slightly glaucous, glabrous or thinly farinose; upper leaves oblong to narrowly lanceolate, entire. Inflorescence lax, paniculate. Bracteoles 3–5(–7) mm, connate for 1/4–1/2, rhombic-deltoid to suborbicular, entire or toothed, often with appendix, herbaceous to thick and fleshy, not indurate in fruit. Seed vertical, lenticular, c. 2 mm in diam., dark brown to black, shiny.
