Vulpia ciliata Dumort.
Slender annual, usually tufted, geniculately ascending or more often erect, 15–40 cm tall. Leaves setaceous, ± convolute; ligule very short, truncate. Inflorescence a narrow, somewhat unilateral panicle with short, suberect, filiform branches, the lower part ± included in the uppermost leaf sheath. Pedicels not or scarcely dilated at apex. Spikelets 4–10-flowered, only the lower 1–3 florets hermaphrodite, the 3–7 upper smaller, male or sterile with shorter awns. Lower glume minute, less than 1/4 as long as the upper. Lemma of hermaphrodite florets 5–7 mm, obscurely 3-veined, pilose, tapering to slender, erect awn 1–2 times as long. Stamens 1(–3), included at anthesis. 2n = 28.
