Briza minor L.
Briza humilis: Slender annual. Stems ascending to erect, usually 10–25 cm long. Leaf sheaths tightly clasping; blade narrow (1–1.5 mm), glabrous, finally involute; ligule membranous, 2–4 mm, acute, lacerate. Inflorescence a dense panicle with short, suberect, filiform peduncles; pedicels mostly shorter than spikelets. Spikelets 4–6 mm long, ovate, subacute, greyish-green, 6–8-flowered. Glumes broadly ovate, acute. Anthers c. 1 mm, pale yellow.
Differing from B. humilis in the following characters: Often taller (15–40 cm); leaf sheaths rather loose, the uppermost clasping base of panicle; blade 2–6 mm wide; inflorescence a lax panicle with filiform branches; spikelets nodding, broadly ovate-triangular.
