Pisum sativum L.

Glabrous annual with weak, scrambling, terete stems up to 200 cm. Stipules very large, broadly ovate, ± cordate at base; leaflets 1–3 pairs, smaller than stipules, elliptical, rhachis terminating in a branched tendril. Flowers in axillary, 1–3-flowered racemes longer than leaves. Calyx teeth large and ± leaf-like. Corolla 20–25 mm, with lilacpurple standard and dark maroon wings. Legume 60–80 × 10–14 mm, oblong to broadly linear, faintly reticulateveined. Seeds c. 10, spherical, densely papillose.
