Ranunculus sardous Crantz
Annual, very variable in size; stem (5–)15–35(–70) cm, usually ascending and branched but in depauperate specimens sometimes simple and erect. Lower part of stem usually patent-pilose, often fistulose. Blade of basal leaves usually 3-partite to base; middle lobe short-stipitate, the others subsessile, all incised-serrate. Cauline leaves similar but smaller. Sepals distinctly deflexed. Petals (4–)7–12 mm, narrowly obovate, bright to rather pale yellow. Receptacle sparsely pilose. Fruiting head globose. Body of achene 2.5–3 mm, compressed, smooth or variously tuberculate to muricate, with a green, grooved margin; beak 0.5–0.9 mm, slightly curved.
