Mentha longifolia (L.) L.
Rhizomatous perennial with musty or pungent scent. Stems erect, 40–100 cm, branched above. Leaves sessile, usually 3–9 cm, broadly lanceolate to oblong-elliptical, acute, sharply serrate, greenish above, grey-tomentose beneath with simple hairs only. Verticillasters many, congested at least above, in slender branched spikes; floral leaves much smaller than the cauline. Calyx 1.5–3 mm; teeth subequal. Corolla lilac, pink or whitish. Stamens exserted; fertile anthers 0.28–0.38 mm. A very variable species.
