Cirsium creticum (Lam.) d'Urv.
Slender, erect perennial 1–1.5 m, occasionally taller in reedswamps. Stem with well-developed, spiny wings. Leaves lanceolate, ± lobed, sparsely arachnoid or subglabrous above, grey-tomentose beneath, with sharp marginal spines. Capitula numerous, solitary or in small clusters, erect. Involucre c. 15 mm, broadly cylindrical. Florets pinkish-purple. Achenes c. 3 mm, with pappus 10–13 mm.
