Urospermum picroides (L.) Scop. ex F.W.Schmidt
Annual, 10–30 cm tall, sparingly branched. Lower leaves oblanceolate to spathulate, dentate, sometimes shallowly lobed. Middle and upper cauline leaves amplexicaul, auriculate. Capitula solitary on long peduncles. Involucre ovoid to urceolate, much enlarged in fruit. Phyllaries 7–10, in 1 row, lanceolate, spinulose, 12–16 mm at anthesis. Ligules lemon yellow. Body of achene c. 5 mm, slightly compressed, muricate; beak c. 10 mm; pappus of white, plumose hairs somewhat shorter than achene.
