Intricately branched, ± thorny deciduous shrub 1–3 m tall, rarely a small tree up to 4 m. Twigs glabrous, brownish-yellow or dark brown. Leaf blade 15–35 mm, lanceolate or narrowly oblong, shallowly crenate-serrate, both surfaces bright green and glabrous, or the lower sparsely hairy; petiole 5–11 mm. Flowers 1 or 2 on short pedicels. Petals 9–13 mm, pale rose-pink; calyx and lower part of filaments often more intensely purplish-pink. Drupe 12–25 mm, compressed, narrowly ovoid, greyish-tomentose; mesocarp coriaceous, splitting at maturity; endocarp pitted.
