Annual herb, usually branched from base; stems procumbent to suberect, 5–20 cm, sharply tetragonous, subglabrous. Leaves in whorls of 4–6, the lowest short and broadly obovate, the upper larger, up to 15 × 5 mm, thin, narrowly elliptical, acuminate. Flowers sessile in lateral and terminal heads subtended by leaf-like bracts connate for 2–3 mm at base. Calyx 4–6-dentate, persistent and somewhat indurate in fruit. Corolla 4–6 mm, narrowly funnel-shaped, usually pink. Fruit of 2 dry, ovoid mericarps.
