Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh.

is commonly cultivated at low altitude in S Greece, but is scarcely naturalized, unlike, e.g., in Portugal, where it is invasive. It is native along river courses and floodplains in much of Australia (known as Red River Gum) and is one of the most widely planted eucalypts elsewhere. It is a fast-growing, evergreen timber tree with smooth bark shed in long ribbons, and falcate leaves. Oddly, the species was described from trees cultivated in the vicinity of the Camaldoli monastery near Naples, hence the name.
