Aegilops geniculata Roth συνώνυμο: Aegilops ovata L.
Annual, usually with several ascending, geniculately bent culms 10–30 cm. Upper leaf sheaths somewhat inflated; blade short and broad. Whole spike (incl. awns) obconical in outline; spike (excl. awns) not more than twice as long as broad, usually with a single vestigial spikelet below, followed by 2 fertile lateral spikelets and a sterile terminal spikelet. All glumes subventricose, truncate, with 3–4(–5) setaceous, scabridulous awns 15–25 mm. Awns of lemmas nearly as long as those of glumes.
