Ίριδα (Iris unquigularis Poir.)
Rhizomatous herb with tough branched rhizome and wiry roots, forming dense, grass-like clumps. Leaves linear to ensiform, 1–5 mm wide, ribbed, rather firm. Stem very short or absent; flowers usually solitary. Spathe valves 5–13 cm, green, herbaceous. Hypanthial tube 6–20 cm, very slender. Falls ± patent, 40–60 mm, with oblong-obovate limb, lavender blue to deep violet with various white-and-yellow patterns at lower centre. Standards suberect, somewhat smaller than falls, broadly spathulate. Capsule ellipsoid, on short peduncle. Seeds few, c. 5 mm, globose to ovoid, orange-brown, rugose.
