Serapias cordigera: Plant rather robust, generally 15–40 cm tall, often with purple dots and streaks at base of stem and lower leaves. Spike short, dense, ovoid, with 2–7(–10) rather large flowers. Bracts erect, equalling or somewhat shorter than flowers, lanceolate, boat-shaped, silvery-grey with thin purple veins. Sepals and petals ovate-lanceolate, resembling bracts, connivent and forward-directed. Labellum usually dark reddish-purple, distinctly constricted between hypochile and epichile; lateral lobes of hypochile large, erect, rounded; epichile 20–28 mm, pendent or slightly reflexed, ovate, acuminate, bearded in middle.
Resembling S. cordigera, but flowers often larger and paler, with less conspicuous constriction between hypochile and epichile, the latter broadly lanceolate, 11–20 mm wide; bracts slightly exceeding flowers.
