Arrhenatherum palaestinum Boiss.
Arrhenatherum elatius: Laxly caespitose perennial 40–120 cm tall; base of culm not or scarcely swollen. Leaf sheaths glabrous; blade usually 2–4 mm wide, glabrous or scabridulous. Ligule 1–3 mm, obtuse, usually ciliate. Panicle 10–20 cm, oblong-lanceolate, rather lax. Spiklets 7–9 mm, usually 2-flowered; second rhachilla segment <1 mm. Glumes unequal, the upper equalling upper floret. Lower floret male; lemma with a dorsal, geniculate awn 10–20 mm. Upper floret hermaphrodite or female, glabrous; lemma with a short awn. Anthers 4–5 mm.
Resembling A. elatius, but generally 30–70 cm tall; base of culm distinctly swollen, bulb-like, often pinkish; spikelets somewhat larger (9–13 mm); second rhachilla segment >1 mm; awn of lower floret 20–25 mm, stout, arising near base of lemma; lemma of upper floret ± hirsute.
